For this assignment, I took what was seemingly the easy road: photographing my own house which I thought I knew intimately but, in the process discovered so much more. An architectural structure that we built, the years have accomplished its intended design – living among the trees – but the unintended result, albeit natural: the trees have taken over and hidden the lines. Changing light in the canyon at different points of the day shade, exclude or add detail.
This side view, although there are more than one, permits a sense of several volumes although, I can now see that the mottled effect of the late afternoon shading while highlighting detail results in the architecture melting into the background. At Douglas’ suggestion, I cropped the image for this post which brings out a little more of the house as opposed to the “forest.”
